The four octagonal star patterns are neatly arranged, each decorated with circular-letter patterns. Crossing stitch and counted thread stitch are used. The octagonal stars inlaid with circular-letter patterns are a major feature of this bellyband. This type of pattern first originated in early pottery and was at its prime during the Song Dynasty. The circular-letter pattern resembles the Chinese character “回”, which is also why its Chinese name connotes prosperity, longevity and good luck.
