Embroideries is concentrated at the centre and the hem is decorated with tassels. Metal gimp stitch is used. Metal gimp is a kind of metal embroidery, which is made in two steps. First, you need to make a primer that uses crossing stitch to embroider the pattern on the black cloth with white silk thread. This embroidery piece is called “Lao Mu Hua”; the second step is to cut the metal tin into thin slices and stitch them on the pattern. Each tin piece is sewed stitch by stitch, and the tassels are made by wrapping the tin pieces on the silk thread. This is very labour intensive as it takes 1-2 years to produce one piece of embroidery work.
