Inside the rectangle are symmetrical Shrivatsa and butterfly flower patterns, The same exquisite and elegant Shrivatsa can be found surrounding the outside of the rectangle. Stack stitch, also known as pile stitch, is made by cutting and folding pieces of glued thin silk fabric onto small triangular shapes. These small pieces are then stacked on top of the base cloth, the sides sewn with needle and thread, and then combined into a rectangular ornament. Due to the lasting influence the Han’s culture has had on the Tujia, the latter’s embroidery style resembles that of the Han’s.
