(ENG) Baby carrying belt: flat stitch with a large area of embroidered butterfly and divine bird patterns. Butterfly and divine bird patterns are frequently found in Miao embroidery, batik and brocade and are implicated with veneration of the dead. According to the myths of the Miao, butterflies and divine birds are the ancestors who gave birth to and nursed the Miao. As described in the Maple Song: Mais Bangx Mais Lief (Mother butterfly) is born from the pith of the tree. Mais Bangx Mais Lief refers to a butterfly which gradually grew and gave birth to twelve eggs. The twelve eggs were then incubated by the divine bird for 16 years. The gods of thunder, water dragon, tiger, buffalo, centipede, the old serpent and ancestors of the Miao- Jangx Vangb hatched from the eggs.
