(ENG) Gejia Batik swaddling blanket: butterfly and divine bird patterns are symmetrically arranged, enclosed by a circular-letter pattern. Swaddling blankets were large wraps that could be used to swaddle a baby as well as to keep clothes, money and personal belongings. Batik refers to the process of beeswax drawing and dyeing and is a traditional craft that has been in existence for over a thousand years. Creating batik is time consuming, labour intensive and takes great skill. Firstly, wax is used to draw intricate patterns on self-weaved white cloth. The cloth is then immersed several times into a barrel of indigo blue dye and taken out, boiled to remove excess wax, and washed with water to reveal diverse white patterns. Creating batik is time consuming, labour intensive and takes great skill.
